Ministry of Coding

The Ministry is here to help you

who?

Hello. I am Martin Cron and Ministry of Coding is the name of my freelance software business and occasionally-updated blog about software development.

what do you do?

I consider myself a technology generalist who can both work to understand problems and implement solutions. I have worked on dozens of software applications, beginning-to-end, top-to-bottom, front-to-back.

If you are part of a development team that is interested in applying some new tools or techniques (TDD, Refactoring, Design Patterns, Agile, Scrum, Lean) I do half and full-day training sessions built around a pragmatic approach and real-world experience.

what's with the name?

It's "ministry" in the government bureaucracy sense and not the religious sense. Now that we've got that out of the way...

A few years ago I heard someone describe the top-down and centrally-controlled organization they were working for as a "Soviet-Style" organization. I imagined that instead of an IT or engineering department, they would have a Ministry of Coding, where all of the decisions about what to do and how to do it were made by hands-off senior bureaucrats and handed down by decree in densely worded memos printed in triplicate on official company letterhead. It's a preposterous idea based on a throwaway joke, but it stuck.

let's do this!
